Normal hCG levels in non-pregnant women are less than 5. 0 mIU/ml, and in postmenopausal women normal levels are anything less than 9. 5 mIU/ml.

Levels of hCG that are lower than normal could mean a miscalculation of pregnancy dating

a possible miscarriage or blighted ovum

an ectopic pregnancy

Levels of hCG that are higher than normal could mean a miscalculation of pregnancy dating

a molar pregnancy

a multiple pregnancy, such as twins or triplets.

Blood tests are normally well-tolerated. Some people have smaller or larger veins, which may make taking a blood sample more difficult. However, risks associated with blood tests like the ACTH hormone test are rare. Uncommon risks of having blood drawn include: excessive bleeding lightheadedness or fainting hematoma, or blood pooling under the skin infection at the site

Test Method 1 : The test requires a blood sample, which is drawn through a needle from a vein in your arm.

Report available : Turn around time is 24 hours.

If your midluteal serum progesterone level is low, the first step is to have it repeated in another cycle to confirm the result. If it is the same or still low, you may need ovarian stimulation to help you ovulate. Progesterone supplements are sometimes prescribed. High progesterone would most likely be addressed by treating the underlying cause of the problem.

Women with low progesterone and a history of miscarriages may be given progesterone supplements as soon as pregnancy is confirmed. This can help reduce the chances of another miscarriage by improving the intrauterine environment.
