Know more about DHT-Dihydrotestosterone

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a sex steroid and androgen hormone. This blood test measures levels of the androgen hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

The usual symptoms include difficulty in starting and stopping the urinary stream, increase in frequency of urination, and pain while urinating. These symptoms are commonly referred to as ñirritativeî or ñstorageî urinary symptoms.

The urinary stream may be diminished (urinary retention), or it may simply dribble out and a feeling of bladder fullness after urination can appear as well. These symptoms are commonly referred to as ñvoidingî or ñobstructiveî urinary symptoms.

Dozens of shampoos claim to make your hair look thicker, but only one ingredient has been shown to truly preserve your pate: Ketoconazole, an antifungal used to fight dandruff, may save your mane by reducing production of testosterone (and therefore DHT) in hair follicles, say scientists at the University of British Columbia.

In fact, in a Belgian study, balding men who used a 1 percent ketoconazole shampoo two or three times a week for six months saw a 17 percent reduction in hair shedding.

Ask your doctor if you should take finasteride. Finasteride (marketed under Propecia and Proscar) is an oral prescription pill and somewhat more effective than minoxidil. It works by binding to the enzyme that would otherwise convert free testosterone to DHT. Finasteride slows hair loss as long as you take it. However, as soon as you discontinue therapy, hair loss typically returns within a year. Side effects associated with finasteride include chills; cold sweats; confusion; dizziness; hives; swelling in the legs, arms and face; tingling; erectile dysfunction; decreased libido; and ejaculatory dysfunction; and weight gain.

A whole foods, nutrient-rich diet is crucial to supporting healthy hair growth. There are many food choices that can help to fend off hair loss, but these are some of my personal favorites:

Organic foods „ Choose these foods because they're free of chemicals. Chemicals can act as endocrine disrupters interfering with hair growth.

Pumpkin seeds „ Pumpkin seeds are one of the top foods high in zinc, which is necessary for healthy hair health. Research has also shown that a zinc deficiency is linked with hypothyroidism and hair loss. (3)

Wild-caught fish „ Wild-caught fish like salmon are high in omega-3 fats, which decrease inflammation while supporting hair growth and hair thickening.

Green tea „ Green tea helps promote detoxification and contains antioxidants that promote hair growth. It also may stop the conversion of testosterone into DHT.

Super seeds „ Chia, flax and hemp seeds are high in fiber and healthy fats that can help aid hair growth.

Bone Broth „ High in protein, collagen and amino acids, bone broth the perfect food for encouraging healthy hair growth.

Test Method 1 : The health professional taking a sample of blood will:

Wrap an elastic band around your upper arm to stop the flow of blood. This makes the veins below the band larger so it is easier to put a needle into the vein.

Clean the needle site with alcohol.

Put the needle into the vein. More than one needle stick may be needed.

Attach a tube to the needle to fill it with blood.

Remove the band from your arm when enough blood is collected.

Put a gauze pad or cotton ball over the needle site as the needle is removed.

Report available : Turn around time is 2 to 7 days.
