The first celebration took place on May 10, 1998, in Mumbai (India). It was arranged by founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement, Dr. Madan Kataria. Since then, its popularity has risen exponentially with that of the Laughter Yoga Movement. Today, World Laughter Day event is being celebrated in more than 70 countries around the world.
