The much ado about breakfast

As you start the day, your body needs to be awake as much as your mind. A morning meal is necessary for your concentration and productivity in equal measure; even though it is easy to skip breakfast on a busy morning, but taking a few minutes to eat can add a lot more to your day.

Oh and just a quick fact, just in case you weren’t aware – the word “breakfast” originates from “breaking the fast,” without which your body will run out of fuel (read energy) much faster.

For those who take facts seriously, here are some quick ones for why breakfast matters:

  • Starting your morning with a meal boosts your metabolism and keeps sugar levels in check during the day. You may find yourself eating anything edible in the vicinity if hunger pangs attack or may want to binge on sugar as your body’s sugar levels may drop.

Oats, boiled eggs and fruit are the quickest and one of the healthiest breakfast options – just remember to eat within two hours of waking up.

The next time you decide to go for a run and skip having anything in the morning, remember that’s not going to help as your body needs food to break down, for energy.
