Sustain the gift of vision

Due to our intense work life, we take our health for granted. Itchy or watery eyes are ignored, as we can’t afford to take them off the laptop screen for long. Try imaging life without sight, for a minute. The thought itself should be enough for us to take good care of our vision.
Dry eyes: Tear glands sometimes fail to produce enough tears. Dry eyes can make you uncomfortable and can cause itching or burning.
Tearing: If this condition is making you look like a cry baby without reason, pay attention to the causes. It may be possible that light, wind or temperature changes irritate your eyes. Protect them when outdoors. It may also mean an eye infection or blocked duct.
Cataracts: Most cataracts are age-related and common in people over 50 years of age but that doesn’t mean you can’t bear the brunt earlier. They could be a result of injury, UV exposure or even loss of protein over time.
Refractive Errors: The most common cause of vision problem, refractive errors happen when the shape of your eye doesn’t bend light correctly, the most common types being myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia and astigmatism.
Glaucoma: It’s a condition that causes damage to the optic nerve and may not show up until later in life. It builds up pressure inside the eye and can cause permanent loss of vision. Most people don’t experience pain due to increased pressure in early stages, so regular checkups are necessary for diagnosis.
Presbyopia: Often confused with far-sightedness, this is part of natural process of the eye but there is a difference. This condition occurs when the natural eye lens loses flexibility. Presbyopia makes you lose the ability to see close objects clearly or read small print.
These problems are common and need to be identified at an early stage to avoid major damage. It’s important to visit your eye doctor regularly.
Being able to see is the most beautiful feeling in life. Treasure it. Protect your vision.
