Common skin allergies are problems for everyone. It makes the skin itchy and more sensitive. If the immune system of your skin is sensitive towards something, you may have common skin allergies. Sometimes, the applied cream or some other product may send antibodies. Hence, it leaves your skin red, itchy, rashes and sensitive. Doctor typically names this problem as contact dermatitis. It can happen due to different reasons and named accordingly.

In some cases, the allergy does not from body contact. While in other cases, the allergy may spread through contact. Hence, it can spread to different body parts as well. The allergy may be due to the products used in everyday life.  The application of some products on the skin is not the only cause. It may include unthinkable reasons like spray, powders, cigarette smoke, etc. Even the most pollutant air targets the skin as well. This kind of interaction involves the damage to eyelids, neck, and head. Sometimes, doctors may not identify the problem just by looking. It does not look different from the normal skin area.

Common skin allergies may cause hives ad swelling as well. This condition is generally referred to as angioedema.

How fast Common Skin Allergies Develops?

Usually, it takes around 10 days for your skin to react. It becomes sensitive as your skin is not adjusting to foreign particles. Even a thing you might be touching for years may develop an allergic reaction.

But, once you have an allergic reaction, you can see the effects within a few minutes. It may develop quickly as soon as one touches the allergen. Otherwise, it may take a few days to develop. The redness, itching, and swelling like problems may take a longer time to develop.

Avoid Contact

This is one of the most important steps to take care of. It may appear obvious to everyone but one should always keep this in mind. Avoid touching the allergic area. Especially one should clean their hands frequently. Do not touch the area with unwashed hands. In fact, one should avoid contact with other people as well.

Soak it

This step involves soaking up your body in the lukewarm water. Do not go for hot water as it can cause further damage. For this step, Oatmeal or baking soda mixed with water can be used.

Oatmeal Powder

Oatmeal does wonders on your skin. It includes antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Both of these properties help in treating common skin allergies. Further, it helps to get rid of itching from the allergic reaction.

Further, Oatmeal can be used while taking a shower. Else, you can just use it as a scrub on the affected area. Both treatment methods include a powdered form of oatmeal. Use a food processor, blender or coffee grinder to grind the oatmeal.

Oatmeal Bath

Mix one cup of powdered oatmeal to a bucket or bathtub. To get a better effect to consider lukewarm water. Afterward, wet yourself with the water and oatmeal powder. In the case of the bathtub, completely immerse your body in the water. Take a cold shower after sitting in the bathtub for half an hour. In case you are using a bucket, gently rub and rinse with clean and cold water.

Oatmeal Poultice

Add 1/4th cup of oatmeal powder in distilled water. Mix the ingredients to make a smooth paste. Gently apply the mixture to the affected area. Cover the affected area with a wet and clean piece of cloth. Let it sit for half an hour. Later, gently clean the area with cold water.

Tip: Add some coconut oil or lavender oil in order to avoid drying skin.

Baking Soda

Baking soda works great in common skin allergies. It manages the pH level of the skin. An additional benefit comes from the anti-inflammatory properties. It soothes your fiery and itchy skin.

Similar to oatmeal bath, one may go for small area treatment or complete shower. The process is almost the same as the oatmeal. Here, we have to use baking soda in place of oatmeal.

Moisturize your Skin

Common skin allergies cause dryness on your skin. Hence, the affected area may appear discolored in the long run. It is good to keep your skin moisturized especially in winters. Importantly after shower or soaking, you need to moisturize your skin well. For this, choose thick lotion to apply. It makes a barrier again for bacterial or fungal infection.

Cold Compression

One may simply use cold compression or take a shower to relieve that fiery sensation. Most of the allergies respond positively to cold compression. Further, the cold compress shrinks the irritated area tissue. Hence, it gives a soothing effect. For this one may simply use the ice with some water. Apply gentle pressure with a wet cloth on the affected area.

Apply Anti-itch Cream

In order to get relief from the fiery sensation, redness, and itching, choose an anti-itch cream. For this purpose, simply use calamine lotion or hydrocortisone. Apply as per prescribed by doctors. These creams make you comfortable and recover faster.

Go Baggy

When it comes to common skin allergy, even clothes can create a problem. In order to avoid contact, wear oversized clothes. Avoid tight-fitting clothes, play it cool and wear loose.
